Eco-Point Chrome-6 Neutraliser Biodegradable Chromium-6 Neutralisation Solution  Converts Cr(VI) to Cr(III)

Eco-Point Chrome-6 Neutraliser is a ready-to-use, biodegradable liquid solution that chemically converts harmful Chromium-6 (Cr(VI)) to the significantly less harmful Chromium-3 (Cr(III)). Designed for industrial maintenance and overhaul environments, it provides an effective, sustainable, and easy-to-apply method for reducing Chromium-6 exposure at source, helping employers meet their duty to control carcinogenic substances in the workplace.

How It Works

When applied to a contaminated surface, Eco-Point Chrome-6 Neutraliser reacts with Chromium-6 compounds and simultaneously wets the surrounding dust, dramatically reducing airborne Chromium-6 particle concentrations. The liquid neutralises harmful Cr(VI) by converting it to Cr(III), which is significantly less harmful.

In combustion engines and similar high-temperature industrial equipment, Chromium-6 dust commonly accumulates beneath insulation on stainless steel components. Extended heat exposure, combined with the presence of a catalyst, triggers the formation of Chromium-6, often identifiable as a yellow coloured dust. Spraying with Chrome-6 Neutraliser converts this dust to Chromium-3 and prevents further dispersal into the air.

Key Benefits

  • Converts Chromium-6 from a carcinogenic substance to a significantly less harmful form
  • Liquid formulation prevents further dust dispersal during application
  • Biodegradable and free from CLP hazard labelling
  • Significantly reduces occupational exposure risk
  • Supports employer compliance with source-oriented carcinogen control obligations
  • Ready to use, applied directly from the spray bottle, no dilution required
  • Suitable for use on non-acid-sensitive surfaces (test for resistance on acid-sensitive materials before use)

Areas of Application

Eco-Point Chrome-6 Neutraliser is suitable for industrial maintenance and overhaul of equipment where Chromium-6 exposure may occur, including:

  • Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units
  • Marine and diesel engines
  • Gas turbines
  • Leather production
  • Chrome plating

Understanding the Chromium-6 Risk

Chromium-6 is classified as a human carcinogen with a very low occupational exposure limit, meaning even small concentrations present a significant health and environmental risk. It forms naturally on stainless steel surfaces subjected to prolonged heat in the presence of a catalyst, conditions commonly found in combustion engines, gas turbines, and CHP systems. Chromium-6 is also present in many industrial paints and preservation coatings, where it can be released during processing, sanding, or grinding. In poorly ventilated spaces, Chromium-6 dust spreads rapidly, significantly increasing the risk of inhalation exposure.

Maintenance and overhaul of affected systems requires robust source-control measures. Eco-Point Chrome-6 Neutraliser provides a practical, compliant, and sustainable solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Chrome-6 Neutraliser be used on heated machine parts? The product works most effectively when applied to machine parts at ambient room temperature.

How long does it take for Chrome-6 Neutraliser to become effective? The product reaches full effectiveness within 15 minutes of application.

What is the shelf life of Chrome-6 Neutraliser? The product has a minimum shelf life of one year, as indicated on the product label.

Is Chrome-6 Neutraliser corrosive to stainless steel? No. While the product has a mildly acidic character, it does not typically affect stainless steel surfaces.

Is PPE required when using Chrome-6 Neutraliser? Yes. Due to the presence of Chromium-6 on treated surfaces, the following PPE is recommended: protective gloves, eye protection, respiratory protection (minimum class P3), and appropriate protective clothing.
